is 10 miles north-west of Leintwardine and lies in an area of
outstanding natural beauty, close to the border with Wales in what is
termed the Middle Welsh Marches. In his poem "A Shropshire Lad", A E Housman called Clun "the
quietest place under the sun". Guarding the entrance to the
town is an ancient bridge dating from 1450 and designed originally for
packhorses. The bridge is largely original and its narrow charm has
kept the busy world at bay for nearly 600 years. |
